FEATURED STORE:
Bowdoin College
Bookstore
Bowdoin College is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducational residential, undergraduate liberal arts institution founded in 1794. It is located in Brunswick, Maine, a town of 22,000 on the Maine coast. Study at Bowdoin leads to a bachelor of arts degree in one of about 40 departmental and interdisciplinary majors. Bowdoin enrolls approximately 1,550 students from across the country and around the world.
From
the founding of the new nation to the most recent international political
developments, Bowdoin and its community have had important roles to
play. A number of famous Americans have passed through the halls of
Bowdoin. Our illustrious alumni include author Nathaniel Hawthorne,
poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, African-American newspaper editor
John Brown Russwurm, Civil War hero Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, U.S.
President Franklin Pierce, statesman William Pitt Fessenden, Arctic
explorer Robert E. Peary, former Senator George E. Mitchell, former
U.S. Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen, and Olympic athlete Joan
Benoit Samuelson.
The Bowdoin Bookstore is owned and operated by Bowdoin for the benefit of the College community. The main store is located in the campus center on the upper level of David Saul Smith Union and the Textbook Annex is located in the basement of Moore Hall. The Bookstore carries a variety of items including textbooks, general books, office supplies, greeting cards, art supplies, Bowdoin clothing, and gift items.
Cindy Breton, Campus Services’ Assistant Director for Bookstore Operations, lead the Summer/Fall 2002 installation of the store’s first point of sales system, Booklog. Since the Follett’s CourseWorks textbook management system was already in place, the Bowdoin Bookstore was one of the first bookstores in the country to use the Booklog College Edition that interfaces with CourseWorks. When asked if Booklog has made any differences to the rush season, Cindy said, “Spring Rush was the best one ever! The lines moved quickly and the students were happy. The Booklog system increased our productivity, accuracy and efficiency. The system is user-friendly, and it was easy to train the temps on the registers. The inventory and lookup functions enable the staff to help customers with all their book requests in just a few keystrokes. I think one of the best features in Booklog is the ability to change things during the transaction process so you limit the amount of voids. We had very few and when you needed to process one, it was a simple and efficient procedure. The receiving and reporting functions made our lives a lot easier too.”
In addition to our bricks-and-mortar locations, books and merchandise
can also be purchased on our
